I went to a big model railway show in Glasgow at the weekend. It was held in the SECC. It was really interesting and I realise l go as much for the scenery as the trains. Not sure if that is an unusual perspective or not. Anyway some photos-
A free vintage bus collects folk at George Square, bound for the show.A big show in a big venue.
I liked the boats and water on this one.
I am a sucker for alpine layouts.
Wonderful grimy layout with lovely corrugated iron church and myriad seagulls.
Alpine scenery at its very best. Most effective water.
Really liked the rocks in this one.
Kato trains from Japan were allowing children to make these for a very reasonable fee.
Really liked the Kato N and 009 stuff.
009 Society with lovely “pizza base” layout.
009 society bringing their modules together. They only do this at shows.
York station built to be viewed at eye level.
Engaging mini layout.
Model of paddle steamer Waverley on Waverley stand.
Further Kato/ Train Trax? Modules. I had a really interesting chat with the man on the stand and heard about how in Japan they cannot keep layouts up and have a system where they are modular or kept in a book sized box on the shelf or have cafes where you can pay to run your train on their layouts. Fascinating.
Lovely waterfall on tree trade stand.
Mr Kato , president of the company. Hands on and easy to talk to.
Liked the two d nature of the terrain and water too.
Nice industrial buildings too.
Terrain on a vast scale , quite overpowering.
Further view of the vast terrain set up. Must have had a lorry…
Charming scene and lovely locomotive.
My favourite trade stand , including the ever tempting Cliff lifts and lots of people, animals and bits n bobs.
Then it was time to board the bus back, a grand day out if ever there was one…
I would have enjoyed this too so delighted you did. I especially like the locomotive with the brass gleaming before the photo of the trade stand.

Fantastic pictures Alan - looks like a great show.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the micro layouts
ReplyDeleteWargamers eat your heart out at the size of the show, railway modellers
ReplyDeleteget it right. Thanks for sharing Alan.
Willz.
I did use to love a model Railway show! Was not aware of 009. Something to look into.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and report Alan!
ReplyDeleteModel Rail Scotland is actually on my "to do list". I got some of those Kato tracks while I was at the Faszination Modellbau in Friedrichshafen last Autumn, and I'm impressed by their quality for that price. I see that you managed to capture photos of their new H0e/009/H0n30 track. They're similar to their N gauge range, but with different sleepers and distance for the narrow gauge. I also like their mini-modules and would actually like to try them out for N or a H0e/009 mini modular layout. I've found that similar modules can be 3D-printed for free.
Great report. I agree that the scenery and techniques that are used are just as fascinating as the trains themselves. Tim
ReplyDeleteImpressive layouts! Thanks for the photolog of the show.
ReplyDeleteThat's so beautiful! I find these displays fascinating, I've enjoyed these pics quite a lot, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteExcellent terrain building skills much in evidence here....they just need some toy soldiers fighting over possession of the LoC to complete things!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these close up photos, you picked out some interesting layouts and details.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photos, looked a good show. The 'mini-modules' that pack away is an interesting idea. I've certainly consider the box file idea but too many things to with three model railway projects on the go (ish) currently. Interesting as well how many wargamers also have an interest in wargaming!
ReplyDeleteSenior moment - I meant of course to say railway modelling!
