Working on some Ancients currently, Bronze Age and Minoans to be precise, 60mm size figures and in resin. On the workbench, love the cow hide shields they carried.
An interesting talk to listen to as l worked away.Archers drying on the radiator. They will function either as a unit alone or be part of one containing long spears too.
Paint pot and 28mm figure for size comparison.
Unit based . Foliage needs to be added and the bronze spear tips painted.
Size comparison again.
Another photo of the spear unit , notice different shaped shields representing the personal choice of individuals within the same unit.
Mixed spear and bow unit.
Some books from the Ducal Library on the subject. Some were bought 1990 or earlier and the one standing up at the back was bought a couple of years ago. Fascinating details contained within its pages.

I am hoping to to use the figures with the Neil Thomas rules, Midgard and l would like to have a go at writing a simple fun period specific set, one side of A4 at longest.
Other figures are primed and ready on the workbench …

These look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I was a bit daunted at first but all has proceeded well.

Giants! I spent a rainy yesterday searching through hundreds of Peter Laing 15mm figures quarter the size …
ReplyDeleteGiants indeed, sounds a great use of a rainy day.

Impressive. 60mm does look like fun...
ReplyDeleteThanks, looks like it will be…

Now you can do the Trojan War with accurate figures!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, now there’s a thought…

They are seriously big! Interesting listening too.

They are, it certainly was interesting. I try to find material related to what l am painting if I can. Evan’s has always interested me.

Wow! These are impressive. They have brought to mind the Historex 54mm Napoleonic figures I used to paint many, many years ago. Also, if I recall, there were chaps at a recent show who did a demo game with 54mm figures. I'm tempted to try a big scale again. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteTom
I recall Historex with affection too. Go on, give it a whirl…

60mm seems like an odd scale, but very nice miniatures. Very strange to see them besides a 28mm figure as comparison, as they look really huge. Nice paintjobs Alan.
ReplyDeleteThe other folk I know who do this do this in 60 mm , probably due to Expedtionary Force doing that scale, for example-

They look big beside 60mm too. Thanks re painting comment.

Chariots must be enormous!
ReplyDeleteI have a couple. I am working up to painting them. They are big yes but the Minoan ones are two horse light ones. I will post when I work on these.

Looking good!
ReplyDelete60mm is an old toy soldier size and my younger self had a few. Near the turn of the century, I painted some recasts of old plastic 60mm figures, but since in those days I was already collecting armies in ...8? sizes and was about to trade my big wargame room for an old, small, 19thC farmhouse .....they, and many others, ended up on ebay.
I bought some 60mm Marx Recasts for a Battle of Largs project. They are somewhere in the plastic mountain. They were lovely figures.

Oh, these look terrific! I hadn't seen any of these before and they look impressive
ReplyDeleteThanks.
