Yesterday saw me engaging with “ The Finnish Front” a 1941-42 Continuation War game from Strategy and Tactics.
Punching out counters and getting to grips with it prior to a proper game next week.
Enjoying reading and drinking coffee in the garden. Note magical shed in background where things emerge from hobby wise having not seen the light of day for years…
The ragged, unkempt garden look which charms me and horrifies my middle daughter. Regardless of its state the garden brings me joy and the urge at times to tame it a tad.
An old friend from 1993 recently which surfaced from the libary shelves. I remain fascinated by the background, lore and the line drawings in particular.
Sunday saw me catching up with family at Prost https://www.abbothouse.org/coffee-shop/ in the gardens of Abbots house until a sudden deluge had everyone retreating in for cover.
The Continuation War as a game seems very interesting. Have you seen the movie 'Unkown Soldier' based on the book by Väinö Linna?
ReplyDeleteGlad you mentioned it as it was an excellent watch.

Enjoy the game. If you haven't seen the film Roger mentioned I'd highly recommend it. Well, at least 2 of the 3 versions. I haven't seen the 2nd one of the 3.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't worry about the garden. The 'unkempt' look is recommended now for wildlife as it gives them more cover.
This was a sort of training run for the game which we will attempt to play next week. This is the third of the games he has about the Winter War or Continuation war. This one is complicated by the Finnish/German player having lots of wee commands and the Russians far less. Activation of commands is by drawing chits from a bag . The Finnish/German player has more options to respond to the Russian moves. The rules feature an events chart which adds period flavour too.
