Midnight at the very cheap and cheerful oasis

 Got these yesterday. Set up a tiny old school cheap and cheerful oasis for the camera this morning. I will probably mount the trees on bases in clumps. I am pleased with the potential look achieved with very cheap cake decorations.

When Saturday comes

 Yesterday was Saturday and here is a little about what the day held-

The day began finishing off rebasing my Lamming Egyptians. I had already removed them from element bases and now put them on 20 by 30 bases individually. However I ran out of bases…

The chariots look grand. Simple castings but with charm , panoply and purpose.

The command chariot with Pharaoh looks great even with the wee base glued on bigger one.

I even found a couple of chariots awaiting assembly…

Having bought another two packs of bases l found myself still short when l took into account the Sea People l was working on, have to order later today! The is is what I got on my Warbases trip yesterday-

Two packs of 20 by 30, penny sized bases- you can never have enough, a sheet of mdf ponds and a pack of highland cattle. I even started them yesterday-

Note Sea People in progress too. The afternoon ended with another enjoyable meeting of the Virtual Watgames Club where the chat is both inspiring, entertaining and encouraging. A good chance to catch up with fellow gamers and their projects.

DBV

 Yesterday saw a dark age game being played here with the DBV skirmish rules. We have been tweaking them for some considerable time now and on the whole they serve us well . However we haven’t used them for sometime and we had forgotten them. A few turns , a false start or two and we were back on track! I umpired allowing P and G to play. Here are a couple of photos-

 Yesterday saw me trying out bus routes to and from Falkirk. I got a direct bus from Dunfermline to Falkirk via some local villages and countryside. The 85 minute journey flew by. In Falkirk l visited Waterstones and the Seagull Trust second hand book shop.

The above two were got for £1.85 each and are part of a series l have been collecting. Well Illustrated and full of interest, they are great introductions to their themes.

With Falkirk being on the Antonine Wall it is not surprising that Waterstones has a good selection of books on the Romans . I picked up this one I had not seen before. Below is a mural behind the till.

My return journey was a 38 bus to Forth Valley Hospital where I changed buses to the Stagecoach one for St Andrews which stops in Dunfermline. A useful trip out.

On my return l found the spare parts had arrived -

I tried to figure the way to use the horse leg spares with my legless Arabs but made little progress, I will have to have a think…

Instead I put glue, cocktail sticks and masking tape on the cowboys to replace their revolvers and fill in a few holes.

 Saw this picture online offering all these 54mm spares for a fiver plus postage-

I couldn’t resist as I need to restock the spares box. The horse legs will come in handy not to mention the arms and heads. Any thoughts on what to do with the cart wheels etc?

Monday’s post

 This parcel arrived on Monday from far away-

On opening l observed these splendid illustrated boxes-

Having opened the boxes l was delighted by the contents-

I couldn’t resist painting a few up to see how they looked-

The rabbits are about 45mm or so tall. I have put in one of the rabbits from my weekend game for size comparison purposes.
