 Just back from London, great trip. On Wednesday went here -

Coal DropsYard , a pleasing mix of old and new and had coffee at this excellent social enterprise business-

Another parade

 Set up the Jacobite opposition-

Jacobite units and small artillery piece to the fore.

The unit at the back and the skirmishers ( newly Penny based) are some of my old Foundry ECW highlanders roped in for this period. Unlike the rest of the force I painted them.

The army commander was a freebie figure from a Wargames show and is a lovely figure.

Yesterday the recruits from across the pond arrived. A few civilians but mainly government highlanders and a pack of officers etc to give some commander/ aide de camp options. I am a tad worried about painting these but will give it a go to the best of my abilities…

P.s l found these Jacobite rules online and am going to give them a go. I had thought about going down the Neil Thomas route and was delighted to find these ready made…

A parade

 Inspired by my grand day out yesterday, l set up a wee parade having dug out the box containing my 1745  Hessians and accompanying British dragoons. I still need to assign colours to my small units. Wonderful flags by David M by the way. This represents the German troops in the Forty Five.

It is a small set up with four bases to a unit with some loose hussars ( no doubt talking in Latin) and dismounted dragoons for skirmishers.

The project was to build a force for games based on the excellent book by Christopher Duffy.

Although fascinated by the whole panoply of Jacobite risings l have a particular interest in the Hessian involvement. I got Duffy’s book twelve years ago and it was a revelation. I guess I am fascinated by this micro campaign for a number of reasons- a rollicking story, sympathetic characters especially the Duke, interesting atypical attitudes displayed, the fact Hessians marched through and deployed in places l know or have stayed/lived in, the romance of the hussars , the German element being of German stock myself and it is fascinatingly niche in a good way. Hope to present the colours over the weekend..

P.s I sent for off for some government highlanders from Jim P’s recent sale and await their arrival with enthusiasm…

Dominion of Frederick the Great etc

 Send off to Lulu for a copy of the rules. Decided to make proper battlefield-

Decided to lay it out on the back of a chess board , marking the lines brown and painting the areas green. After it dried l laid out Reichsarmee v Austrian to see how it looked-

Ps the post arrived but minus the rules ( hopefully tomorrow) and the Baccus sample pack…

Currently listening to and thoroughly enjoying the above, worth a listen imho.
