17th century toy soldiers?
I am currently re-reading one of my favourite novels-
In it mention is made of Prince Charles ( later Charles I) having toy soldiers and cannon. Anyone shed light upon this?
I've not heard of 17c model soldiers before, but it seems likely they were about...made of wood I should think. He clearly didn't learn much from his tactical games.

ReplyDeleteDidn't Charles boast (after Lostwithiel, I believe) that he was the best general in his army? Maybe the toy soldiers did pay off.
