The pike fitter's lamentations

My pikes arrived last weekend from North Star and they look  the business. My figures need to hold them vertically. I cannot find storage for such "tall" figures yet,a cardboard box isn't strong enough and I don't want to lay the figures on their sides as the pikes knock off easily. Superglue doesn't seem to hold the pikes without them pinging off if touched. What do others do- Araldite? Answers here please to help me restart this project!
P.S Congrats to Dan and Michael on the official publication day of their rules.I know lots of gamers who are going to really have fun with these and hopefully a renaissance of renaissance gaming in 2017.

    Spears/pikes are such a pain, have you tried drilling a hole in the base of the figure directly under the hand and glueing the butt of the pike into it and the hand as well, gives another point of contact, I use a thick super glue from Boyes shop chain, Tony

    I also drill a hole for the two points of contact. Scrape/cut/drill the hand for as much area as possible and to make the metal clean. wipe the pike with meths etc. I use 5 minute araldite but with a superglue I suggest returning once the joint has cured and coating the hand and pike with another coat to go round both.

    As far as storage, it may seem a drastic solution but I bought one of these (strong enough for cavalry too) and delivered for £25.

    I use superglue with an accelerator which seems to be ok, but keep the pikemen on a shelf rather than in boxes. As John says, Ikea have some very good storage systems, but I can never bring myself to go to that hellhole.

    Really useful boxes do plastic boxes in a variety oh heights. Sorry I can't remember my password.

    I'll echo the use of 5-minute epoxy adhesive for the pikes. I also endorse the Really Useful Boxes range. My club has used them for years and they're strong and durable. Being transparent means you can also see the contents at a glance. I keep most of my figures in them.

    Won't the gel superglue hold them, especially with two points of contact? The Poundshops stock it.

    I have been playing with the old fashioned method of soldering on weapons. I've become quite good at making swords by soldering onto a hilt and done some spears...

    Otherwise, multiple points of contact are important - I usually glue to the and and the base.

    Just a thought. Put bubble wrap or packing foam in the bottom of a normal box and lay the figures on their side. The wrap or foam stops the figures moving too much. I've even built up little foam walls around groups of models or figures and it seems to help.
