Middle daughter has been enjoying the “Queens Gambit” on Netflix and is keen to play me at chess. After a few games I introduced her to this-
Chess. I have always liked Fairy Chess so a chance to play this fascinating variant. We will see how we get on...
Alice Chess! I haven't played that in years - decades. Time was it was probably my favorite chess variant, and I've played Cylindrical, Transparent (great for attacking tacticians), Progressive and Replacement Blitz. I've also tried Chess Kriegspiel, and was absolutely pants at it.
ReplyDeleteI got a cheap Dover edition of a guide to Fairy Chess in my early twenties possibly earlier and real loved it. I made cardboard boards etc at it was a lot of fun. There is a whole world of ideas and possibilities I find fascinating.
DeleteIs Alice Chess in the Dover book? It’s somewhere on my shelf, so I’ll have to go look...
DeleteI am pretty sure it is.

Well done , you could build a city on geek points rather than rock and roll...
DeleteNever heard of a variant to chess , I will google to learn more .
ReplyDeleteIt is a fascinating subject Tony , well , well worth a google..
DeleteI discover that what I called Replacement blitz is actually bughouse chess. The times I've played it, the games often led to one side about to checkmate in one move, but the game suspended as the clocks run down.
