Still finding it hard to read as much as I would like. Dip in and out of things. Not really the time or place I guess but I would like to divert myself better with books. Anyway here are a couple of new arrivals-
You can’t go wrong with Osprey and Shire pack a tremendous amount into a small number of pages.
What are you currently reading?
Shire books are always a good short read with pictures; I almost wish I was rich enough that they had a subscription scheme or circulating library to send each one on approval as they would be a fascinating and distracting intro to many people's niche interests.
ReplyDeleteThe Thames? In America? Something new to learn about the War of 1812. The one where the British stormed and burnt the White House. And its library - Burning the Books by Richard Ovenden (sometimes on BBC Radio / Sounds)
Still reading through Time Travellers Guide to Elizabethan Britain (Ian Mortimer) and Winston Graham The Spanish Armadas. Slowed down by stopping to look things, places, people on the web.

Well, reading the kindle version of The Duke of York's Flanders Campaign by Steve Brown interspersed with listening to an audio book of Outlaw by Angus Donald (Will Scarlet's tale, 1st of a series of Robin Hood novels and excellent imo)

DeleteI've also just read The Return...very good. I tend to have several books on the go so currently I'm reading poet John Cooper Clarke's autobiography I Wanna Be Yours, The Nightmare Stacks by Charles Stross and The King in the North by Max Adams; a really good history of Oswald of Northumbria.

DeleteI'm in a 'Cosy Murder' phase at the moment. Two new titles, Richard Osman's (of Pointless fame) The Thursday Murder Club, One where HM The Queen turns detective after a murder at Widsor, The Queen's Knot, and then I'm re-reading the Colin Watson Flaxborough novels. All nice easy relaxing reading.

DeleteCurrently, Death Before Glory by Howard about the British campaign in the West Indies in 1793-1815. I also am reading The Loyalists by Maya Jasanoff, which talks about the Loyalist diaspora after the American Revolution.
