I got these a while back. I was charmed with the quirky energy of them. The trees with birds in them and a squirrel climbing up are charming. There is a naivety about the scene as a counterpoint to the hunting scene. I have no idea about the maker or the age ( not old at all I imagine) of them but I am glad I got them. I will set them up in the Theatrum Mundi soon and take some pictures. They lend themselves to some sort of simple game with a role play element perhaps, hmmm, we shall see.
The adventures of an 18th century imagination, located in Northern Europe formerly ruled over by joint rulers Duke Karl Frederick and Duchess Liv.Not to mention the American colony of Ny Tradgardland the 17th century Colony of New Tradgardstadt and the newly restored territory of the Shetland Isles. Alan, I think these are quite charming. I'm sure you could find a reason for the Nobility of the Duchy to have a bit of sport on a fine Spring morning...

I think I might...
DeleteThey are charming in extreme, I have never seen them before, so this is an early morning treat.
ReplyDeleteThey are , aren’t they, glad you enjoyed seeing them.
DeleteThose are rather pretty - perhaps German ?
ReplyDeletePretty indeed, I imagine them to be German.
DeleteThere are some boar hunting rules out there - unpleasant as it might be tô some, usually seen as cavalry training and quite dangerous to horse and rider

I saw these, thanks for reminding me of them. I am thinking of ways to proceed..
DeleteThe boar on the left and the humans all have a wonderful cartoon quality to their appearance. There is quite a bit of potential here.
ReplyDeleteThe cartoon/ quirky is what attracted me to them.
DeleteWhat a marvelous set you've found Alan! The animation of all of the animals is wonderful, the trees are quite charming, and the hunters have a certain quality that reminds me of early 1700's illustrations! Excellent find!
ReplyDeleteYour comments are so true. I must investigate the illustrations you mention...
DeleteJust love those trees, superb find!

Those trees are terrific fun. I wish I knew the maker, though currently endeavouring to do so, to see if I could add to this scene...
