Yesterday would have been my wedding anniversary so I decided that a dérive in Edinburgh was what was needed. I had no set route and was open to possibilities. I got the bus from Fife, got off in Hillhouse road and walked through the Western General grounds. A wee wander through Stockbridge took me to the Botanics-

Featuring a supporting bill of gaming in a diversity of times, places and scales.Hopefully something to interest all who pop by...

Dérive in Edinburgh
Having walked through the gardens I ended up via Cannonmills in Leith Walk. En route these historic gardens presented themselves
Finally up Leith Walk passing by the giraffe sculpture and the decorated pub l end the journey at Bross Bagels where I had a Montreal. Best bagels l have ever tasted, definitely worth a visit to them if you are ever in Edinburgh.
Looks like an enjoyable, reflective walk. What is a Montreal bagel? I must say that the city of Montreal produces the finest bagels.
ReplyDeleteMain ingredients are lots of cream cheese and lox.
DeleteIncidentally the woman who set up the company is from Montreal I believe.
Nothing like a good walk is there - I do like the giraffe sculptures .
ReplyDeleteI’m trying, since I had Covid, to walk more. The giraffes are great.
DeleteLove the giraffes!
ReplyDeleteThey’re great!
DeleteA lovely daunder, a nice way to spend a day.
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed.
DeleteA fine way to spend a day ...
ReplyDeleteNothing much beats an Edinburgh walk.
DeleteA nice little wander - friends of my parents we called Auntie and Uncle lived on Gayfield Square, at the top (CBD) end of Leith Walk. I remember there used to be many interesting shops near their place, including an amazing delicatessen run by genuine Italians, selling all manner of weird and wonderful foods that were rare as hens teeth in early 1970's Britain! (you know, like salami or black olives....things most people had never heard of!)
ReplyDeleteThe Italian delicatessen is still there. The South East of Scotland Wargames Club met for many years in Garfield Square. I recall going there in the seventies.
DeleteReally....small world! Shame I had not known about that back n the day.....!
DeleteSounds like a very pleasant wander. I hadn't encountered the term, "dérive", before, but I think I follow the practice on days I go out for a long walk in my neighborhood, where I will decide to turn here or there on a whim, only aiming to make a big loop that returns me back home.
ReplyDeleteIt was and I think you do. https://theconversation.com/psychogeography-a-way-to-delve-into-the-soul-of-a-city-78032
