Follow up to last Durer post of yesterday
Looked out this book today as I thought you might enjoy these drawings. I am particularly intrigued by the woman’s clothes, which are similar to the ones in the exhibition.
Hmmm..."I am particularly intrigued by the women's clothes" isn't a phrase for use in some companies! So what was Durer up to...was he drawing from life, or are these his attempts at haute couture? There seems to be a lot of ermine fur in evidence!

ReplyDeleteI actually Googled this after commenting and seems he drew from observation, particularly around Venice and Nuremburg, although not exclusively....
DeleteA great deal of fur was imported from Russia in the late Middle Ages I believe.
