Down staying near London. Thursday saw a visit to a splendid bookshop in Gower Street. Lovely building and excellent range of books-
Towards the end of the day we were in Marleybone and went into Daunt booksellers-
https://dauntbooks.co.uk/ They have a splendid way of displaying the books which l have not seen elsewhere. They are arranged by country. For each country they have its travel books, history and fiction all together in one place. Terrific idea worked really well.
I love finding independent bookstores and spending time browsing around. Even more so on my occasional travels to places like the UK, where I often find books I don't see here in the US, like regional stuff.

DeleteNext to a toy soldier shop, a good bookshop is a great way to pas an hour or so of browsing, even if no purchases eventuate!

Now you’ve made me want to go up to London. Fabulous building. I recommend taking a bus journey through central London on the top deck. You get a good view of all the wonderful buildings that shops and restaurants are housed in. Walking at street level you can easily miss this because of the modern plate glass windows and shop fronts.

DeleteWas reminded of the Two Ronnies sketch, where enquiries relating to a particular title were countered by the librarian asking if it was a red book of a green book, and then explaining the titles were arranged by the colour of the colours.
ReplyDeleteNo change in the pandemic then when all the interviewees and working from home Team-sters and Zoom-ers needed bookshelves in the background to impress. You could buy colour coordinated collections of old books ... irrespective of the quality of what went on between the covers!
