A splendid day was had by all. Four games were on offer- Normans v Normans Lion Rampant, Garibaldi skirmish game, Command and Colours Romans v Germans and a Napoleonic game using a variant of the Neil Thomas rules. I played two games of Lion Rampart am and a Command and Colours pm. Here are some photos of the day, please feel free to ask questions about the figures and games-
All the games look great. Those Germans are suitably very varied in the C&C game. And that fence looks a labour of love. Excellent stuff.
ReplyDeleteMy worry with 54mm figures is that you would have to do a good paint job on every individual.
I do 54mm and can’t paint for toffee. A the games had a different style which added to the fun of the day.
DeleteIt’s yonks since I’ve heard the construct “X can’t Y for toffee”. Put a smile on my face. Ace!
DeleteDelighted to have made you 😊
DeleteHow did you like Lion Rampant? I've got it and am considering using it with single bases of Paperboys (as they come in numbers of six and twelve).
ReplyDeleteLion Rampant was great fun. Your paperboy idea sounds a plan.
DeleteVery different looking to the more usual smaller scales but very attractive indeed and I can see the appeal....it has a distinctly H G Wells look and feel to it! Are a lot of these figures Elastolin....they have that look, particularly the Ancients.....
ReplyDeleteThe ancients are conversions of all sorts of figures but none Elastolin I believe. The German cavalry, for example are those heavy , metal figures yo get with magazines.
Delete54mm!!!! Now your talking- great stuff indeed- always liked 54mm. Glad you enjoyed the day Alan. Cheers. KEV.
ReplyDeleteThanks , it was super fun.
DeleteGreat looking games ! , seems a grand day out !
ReplyDeleteA grand day(s) out indeed!
DeleteGood looking games and figures - thanks for the close ups. Looks like a good day was had by all.
ReplyDeleteIt was fascinating to see how the figures were converted . Excellent skills evident.
DeleteTradgardmastare,
ReplyDelete54mm ... the one true toy soldier scale! All the games look magnificent, and I am sure that you must have enjoyed your day in Woking.
All the best,
Bob
Very true! Thanks Bob.
DeleteOne year soon we will get the Scouts and their snowy Wide Games and snowball fights to Woking as planned ...

I really hope so! Don’t forget the games day in September in the North…
DeleteLooks like it was amazing fun. Hope you remembered your lucky dice!
ReplyDeleteRonnie
I seemed to in one game but not the other! It was great fun with super folk. Maybe next time Ronnie?
DeleteGreat pictures Alan! It was wonderful to meet up with you and the others for a relaxing and convivial day of 54mm gaming. Time for me to start thinking of a game for the next one!
ReplyDeleteThanks, it was great meeting up indeed! Relaxing and convivial, that sums it up. I look forward to seeing your next game in September?
DeleteGreat looking figures and tables, looks like it was a lot of fun. I am very tempted by 54mm figures but not too sure about painting them.
ReplyDeleteGive one or two a go and see how you get on…
DeleteGreat looking games... gutted to have missed it (again!!)
ReplyDeleteThey were and I can well imagine…
DeleteLooks like a great day!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was, terrific fun!
DeleteAlan;
ReplyDeleteLooks like you all had a great time. Loved the pictures.
Eric
I did Eric, a great day in excellent company.
DeleteAlan, some nice photos, but number nine particularly caught my eye, late 19th century figures. Excellent paintwork, but still keeping that 'toy soldier' look!
ReplyDeleteMichael
These are conversions, very artfully accomplished. The paint job does reflect the toy soldier look successfully.
DeleteThank you for all of the beautiful pictures Alan! It looks like it was a wonderful day spent playing with real toy soldiers! What could be better than that?
ReplyDeleteWhat could be better indeed!
DeleteLooks wonderful! I hope you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteI had a terrific time! The company and games made it a very memorable experience indeed!
