The postman always rings once

Finally managed to organise a redelivery of two parcels that came last week. They arrived this afternoon.

The first contained a most generous gift of two cogs from DC ( not David Crooks) for my Lamming medieval games. This means that three ships will take to the table for naval warfare and hopefully some amphibious landings too…

I look forward to getting these ready for a game…
The second parcel contained some figures for the 1790 Tradgardland project-

These are from my painting service who have done me proud so far -
Finally a gratuitous Ladybird book photo from a book I loved as a boy -

P.S thanks for your kind words in the previous post, most kind and greatly appreciated.

    1. When I taught l recall the day there was a purge of books deemed to be too old. I remember going to the skip and rescuing books, many of them Ladybirds. They remained in my class library for years after. On retiring l passed them onto a good home. I can understand that information changes, ie country names etc, but “ What to look for in Winter” etc are universal.

  4. What fantastic boats - I’m sure you’ll have fun with these.
I agree about Ladybird books - when colour books were scarce and expensive on pocket money in the 60s / 70s, they were really important and inspiring / memorable. I especially remember Ladybird Leaders for younger readers volumes on Soldiers and Castles, the older ones The Story Of Arms and Armour, Julius Ceaser and biographies etc etc. My painting references at the time.

    1. The natural history ones were beautifully illustrated and contained a great deal of information . They were useful primers on birds and animals for me as a boy. With regard to the history ones , when I hear or read of an event, for example Alexander cutting the Gordian knot, the Ladybird illustration comes to mind so readily.

  5. Great to see you posting again, Alan. The cogs look like fun. I'll carry on painting the Lamming figures (between Hessians) and let you prepare the scenario.

    1. I've just heard that Martin of Lamming Miniatures is unwell and temporarily unable to trade. Wishing him well and a speedy recovery.

    2. Vexed to hear that about Martin, l too send my best wishes.
I do think we can have some splendid naval encounters with these ships and the naval bit of the Lamming rules.

    1. A veritable rip roaring read. I was also particularly fond , as a boy, of the volumes on Alexander the Great and Roman Britain.
