Yesterday the postman brought a parcel which contained some Airfix 54mm figures-
I have long been fascinated by these Space Warriors from Airfix. I recently had a chance to buy some and an original box too. They were selling for a reasonable price so I went for it!Strange they are and wonderful too. Referencing the space movies of the times and also those of an earlier age- Flash Gordon et al.
I am delighted with my purchase. As ever I will preserve the paint on them already and follow the painting guide on the box for true authenticity.
By the way Airfix Space Warriors are in the V&A catalogue and collection-

These are absolutely terrific, Alan, I had no idea that they even existed! I could see a variety of adventures, from Flash Gordon to Battlestar Galactica, with these fellows, and much fun in painting them. Lovely stuff.
ReplyDeleteYou learn something new every day as they say. Terrific fun , filled with great potential.

I can't remember these from when they were released but have seen a few on different blogs etc. they are a strange bunch but great fun and should give you many hours of adventure that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteLots of gaming fun to be had indeed!

Enjoy - I wish you joy of these curious figures and I look forward to seeing what you do with these! What a great haul and an original box too. Looks like you have more than a box worth, both grey boxed originals and the silver shiny plastic grab bag reissues. The fact they are in the V & A (shame no images) surely adds gravity to our hobby of Floor Games and Tabletop Little Close Star Wars. A collaborative Woking or Northern game possibility?
ReplyDeleteThanks! V&A certainly adds gravitas. Collaborative Woking or Northern game sounds an absolutely splendid idea!

I have a few of these, the only ones I've ever seen. My Flash Gordon games (inspired by the movie serials and Indiana Jones) use a variety of 28mm figures but larger figures would be nice.
ReplyDeleteWell worth looking out for ! I would like to see your Flash Gordon games in a big scale very much.

The bare headed man I have converted into one of my ancient Greek or Roman officers!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly look to have got a good buy. You actually have two of the heroine figures in sliver plastic, which do not seem to be common!
ReplyDeleteI, likewise bought a load of the Space Warriors figures a few years back, although I had owned a set of them as a kid and foolishly got rid of them.
I will be interested to see what you do with them.
