No time for swanning around!

Mark, M of T and I are currently engaged in a fun, friendly challenge. For details see his post here-

https://manoftinblogtwo.wordpress.com/2024/11/16/wargame-in-a-wee-matchbox-challenge-accepted-1/comment-page-1/#respond

In a nutshell it is about creating a game where all necessary components fit into a matchbox, traditional not cook sized btw. I looked around the house and found these-

The top box is the current matchbox used to light candles here in the Duchy now we are approaching winter and need the cheery glow and scent of an evening. The bottom box was handed out , I think, at the Chelsea flower show this year and is a great example of what can be done with a matchbox in terms of message and content.
So thinking cap on and let the challenge continue…

  4. Swanning around - very funny!
Does it have to be a small matchbox?

    1. Thank you, I try.
I guess I just chose a matchbox as a base to start from. As they are cheap and readily available, l think the answer is yes.

  5. An interesting idea and a great challenge for game designers. I know I could fit the cards, rules and two figures for my gladiator game into a larger cook's matchbox, but the smaller box would be impossible. Although I like small things, taking it to that extreme would require having very, very simple rules that can be folded up to fit inside, which - IMHO - would risk reducing the quality of the playing experience. The hexagonal dice-based cricket game 'Howzat' I used to play at school would fit, but it's not a wargame...

    1. Interesting points. I went for a small matchbox as I perceived it to be, traditional, cheap and accessible as well as providing a greater depth of challenge. A cook’s sized box is but fascinating too and I am intrigued by your idea for filling it. As for impossible, we shall see. I recall cricket dice with great affection. Now there’s a thought…

I guess external help like a 'Dice-app' on the phone is out of the question?
I'm looking forward to see what you both can make out of it.

It depends when a proposal needs to be presented (?), as I'm away this week.
