Stuck

I’ve been planning a 15th century German Lands army for years now. It has been a stop start stop process.

I keep moving it forward, stalling , starting again. At times it seems too daunting.
So it sits in my room a daily reminder of an unfinished project. I love the period, figures, history etc. My opponent has Burgundian, Swiss and WOTR armies as suitable opponents whilst I have French Ordnance. All just waiting to be defeated…

So this rainy Saturday morning I am looking for practical suggestions ( other than just get it done) to encourage me to complete it.Thoughts…

Chelsea Flower Show v Wargames Shows

This is not a serious compare and contrast post but just a wee excuse for a couple of photos. When we went last year one thing that surprised me was the amount of trade stands. There were loads selling everything from souvenirs to the most beautiful of bespoke greenhouses, not to mention plants and seeds. Artists too were selling alongside day beds and outdoor kitchens. It was an eye opener. We were taken by a stand selling antique / vintage gardening paraphernalia and tools. I was very tempted by a narrow blade hoe but realised that it was not tenable on Tube or Train. They also had some lovely pre war Britains model  garden bits ( expensive) which reminded me of my Britains flower beds, pond etc of the 1960s.

A vast variety of garden sculptures were on display, from larger than life horses to these charming fellows-

Pooh sticks with an interesting fellow under the bridge…
Mr Toad and Badger.
Oh no Toad has got behind the wheel again!
Finally an awful joke ( or is it) Chelsea smells infinitely better than a wargames show.😂😂

Swim Deep

Last Friday we went to an interesting exhibition at the London Design Museum, lunch at Gail’s ( a splendid coffee shop new to me) and then onto the V&A. All this plus amazing Art Deco buildings en route.

Railways and Rifles

Absolutely fascinating video here on trains and troops in the mid 19th Century German Lands-

Post Chelsea Saturday

My eldest daughter got the train northwards, my middle one went to a booking binding day and I went to Ditchling looking for where David Jones , Eric Gill and their craft community had lived and worked.

I had never been on the Brighton line before and was fascinated at the juxtaposition of what looked to me to be 18th century buildings and the sky scrapers just after we had crossed the Thames from St Pancras.

Guild produced silverware.

A marvellous compost heap just outside the museum.

Some purchases from the museum shop, I would like one day to use the book on the top of the pile to explore Ditching in greater detail, maybe staying there for a night or two…

Chelsea Monday

Last Thursday l had a grand day out at the Chelsea Flower Show with two of my daughters. A tad chilly at times but dry it was certainly an enjoyable and inspiring day.
