Chelsea Flower Show v Wargames Shows

This is not a serious compare and contrast post but just a wee excuse for a couple of photos. When we went last year one thing that surprised me was the amount of trade stands. There were loads selling everything from souvenirs to the most beautiful of bespoke greenhouses, not to mention plants and seeds. Artists too were selling alongside day beds and outdoor kitchens. It was an eye opener. We were taken by a stand selling antique / vintage gardening paraphernalia and tools. I was very tempted by a narrow blade hoe but realised that it was not tenable on Tube or Train. They also had some lovely pre war Britains model  garden bits ( expensive) which reminded me of my Britains flower beds, pond etc of the 1960s.

A vast variety of garden sculptures were on display, from larger than life horses to these charming fellows-

Pooh sticks with an interesting fellow under the bridge…
Mr Toad and Badger.
Oh no Toad has got behind the wheel again!
Finally an awful joke ( or is it) Chelsea smells infinitely better than a wargames show.๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  1. Charming sculptures (but rather expensive). I looked up robert james sculptures https://www.robertjamesworkshop.com/shop/category/garden-sculptures

  2. I'm sure Chelsea is lovely, but Partizan only cost £5 to get in, and the cafe was cheap too..
I happened to be in the area when the show was on last week, Kings Road was packed, never seen so many floral print dresses in one place! Which admittedly is probably better than scruffy band T-shirts and backpacks.
I wonder if anyone has ever suggested a garden wargame to Chelsea? Could get the Chelsea Pensioners involved..

    1. An excellent idea for Edwardian H G Wells lawn game.
A shame John Ruddle’s magnificent wargames garden could not be moved there!
I have yet to catch a glimpse of a Garden Railway there yet.
