Real life has been a tad trial filled of late , nothing horrendous but a combination of things leaving me exhausted and low at times. Did manage a wee training game at home Friday and an outing yesterday.
Britain 1940 - German mountain troops hold a strategic road junction. They await reinforcements to be air dropped by parachute. The method to land. Action dice is placed by player , direction changed by opponent, two d6 thrown to show drift distance from aiming point, figures land at one inch intervals behind, any landing on impassable terrain don’t make it.
The parachute phase nearly over. Every unit gets a pin marker and needs to regroup next turn.
Landing paratroopers took few casualties.
Reorganisation in progress, orange dice marks number of pins.
The British diced for entry point to table.
The British commander making a point forcefully.
The junction is beginning to come out of German hands.
Yesterday, although l didn’t feel like it l went to the Falkirk Model Railway Show. They had moved it to Forth Valley College with excellent modern facilities and space. Some pictures-
Loved the wee crane and understated but effective modelling. The quay was beautifully modelled as was the detail .
Charming scene on the above model. A feast for the eyes.
N gauge in a suitcase, terrific fun and use of space.
Loved this nineteenth century layout of Bavarian railway in winter. Didn’t know you could buy stuff of this period. So atmospheric, wonderful scenery too.
The bridge was charming to say the least. Wonder who makes it.
General view of big layout.
And here too .
Lovely 009 scale I think. Narrow guage at its best.
Can’t recall much of this , liked the quiz in the bottom right hand corner asking young people to try and spot certain things in the layout. Excellent scenic modelling too.
I had to walk into the centre of the town for my bus home and enjoyed my wee wander . Next summer will mark forty years since I moved to Falkirk, albeit briefly, time flies!

I really enjoyed the railway pictures especially the winter scene.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting way to represent troops parachuting onto the table - I'd have guessed you would have been a fan of the paper drop. It's not my period - are the Germans in blue helmets or is that doen to the camera?
Hope next week is a better one - a good decision to go out to the show anyway despite low spirits.

A lonely Scottish Northern Moorland junction. Mountain troops, Paratroops, full of adventure …
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the vignettes on model railway layouts, some great small branch line railways and in the final photo a list of things to look out for.
Great blogpost and photos. It was really enjoyable to read and see while drinking my coffee this morning. I like the way you deployed your paratroopers to the tabletop. Looks like they looses valuable time just re-organizing again.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos from the Model Railway show. I really like when you can find narrow gauge and standard gauge on the same layout.
The picturesque 19th Century Bavarian layout was very effectful and well executed. It reminds me of some layouts I saw in 'Continental Modeller' back in the days built by Norman Raven. I think he and his family built winter themed layouts from different periods and countries, among them 19th Century German layouts.
That nice bridge is a H0 model made by Faller. If you're looking for one online the product number is Faller 191774.
Thanks for sharing!
Simple but effective hedges. This time of year always seems to be a bit crowded to me... and that's just 'normal' November/December!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that life has been difficult Alan...hopefully next week will be a better one! Looked like a great game. I would recommend the Games Workshop scatter dice for random placement of men or artillery strikes on the tabletop. If you don't have any and would like to try one, just drop me a note by email.....tol-keen@hotmail.co.uk with your address and I will gladly send you one .....I recently found another three whilst sorting some old figures out!
ReplyDeleteGreat railway pics Alan, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou can't beat a Model Railway Show !
ReplyDeleteYour game looks fun Alan. And those railway models…
ReplyDeleteHope your coming week picks up.

I've never been that keen on WWII gaming but a parachute drop is attractive. I recall scattering paper citties as a Don Featherstone idea. And thanks for the railway pics - looks an excellent show.
ReplyDeleteAnd surely you were bound to return to Falkirk - as per its theme song 'Wheel meet again'... Hope it's a better week.
