A question for the railway buffs

Bid on eBay, was beaten for the railbus but won these. I don’t quite understand what l  bought . Why do these wagons have an engine? I am a novice.

  1. Also a novice, but it looks like a tram engine to me. I only say that because it looks a bit like Thomas’ friend Toby the Tram Engine.

    1. Indeed, quite probably, the PLR is a strange place .

  5. Looks like some kind of improvised trolley for parcel goods or maintenance. Nice haul!

    1. Just the thing for the PLR, a rather obscure and quiet corner of the railway network.

  7. From a curious archivist: might this be a "speeder"? Try this site:https://www.american-rails.com/speeders.html
