Still here...

Still here...just. Rather tired trying to work and do the myriad practical things that need to accomplished. I have enjoyed dropping by your blogs and seeing what you are up to.They represent normality something I feel I have  little of at present. My Lords and Masters at work demand much and always want spontaneity and planned at the same time. Child led yet planned in minute detail beforehand. I am frankly scunnered to use an excellent Scots word.
No painting or gaming done. Some excellent figures and diverse items arrived from Wittenberg for which I am most grateful.I look forward to slotting them in to the Duchy soon. I have sent for some figures for the new Duke and his Court - which I look forward to receiving and working upon. Ideas flit in and out of mind ,plans made  seem pointless after a little while. I feel in a hobby and general  malaise . I wonder wether to start something new to "kick start" me or what .Ideas sought and welcomed...

  1. I can but sympathise, Alan. My gaming and model-making has had to take a back seat due to circumstances beyond my control. At least we have a hobby that's always there for us when we need a break from real life. Maybe you could revisit an old project that's been on the back burner for a while, or begin a new one? I've just ordered some Pendraken 10mm for AVBCW by way of a change from 28mm Darkest Africa.

  2. Very honest post and one I am sympathetic to. I sometimes find that a malaise moment is a good time to put something down for a bit and remind myself of what else interests me, connecting with people I haven't seen in a while, trying a new activity. It sometimes takes a month or so for the malaise feeling to lift, and then the hobby is there waiting for me, like an old friend.
    Blessings,

  3. As a forty-year vet of the teaching profession, you have my sympathy and support.

I once likened what I did to performing a one-person theatrical show where I not only had deliver an excellent performance ever time, but I also had to write the script, paint the scenery, provide the props, and sell the tickets ... and do that four or five times a day! I said that any actor who did that was given a knighthood, but teachers only got told to do better next time!

I hope that one day the profession will get the recognition it deserves. It did not whilst I was working but with luck it will whilst you are.

    All the best,

    Bob

  4. More sympathy. No advice. Kudos to teachers!

  5. When the teaching profession gets the recognition it deserves, governments might then ask it for advice on education policy. Wouldn't that make a change!

But sometimes one feels simply like blobbing out. Blobbing out os OK. This is one of those hobbies that will soon call you back, all refreshed from the recuperative powers of blobbing out.

    Well, that's one man's view...
    Cheers,
    Ion

  6. Ditto all the sage advice above, I often fall into a state of ennui, sometimes by having so many projects I want to finish, I don't get anything done at all as I dither between them. It would be great to see some 54mm Scots emerge from the mists, but just letting the mind rest when it can might be the wisest idea. You have a seriously stressful job and have certainly had a lot to contend with in the last couple of weeks, so monging out (to use current parlance) and waiting for the wargaming muse to visit might be the answer. Whatever, hope you have a decent week and things get better.

    cheers

  7. Alan, old sprout, you have my sympathies too. The decent chaps above have all made excellent comments, which I endorse. I was once told by a GP that the profession that he most frequently had to sign off as a result of stress was, you've guessed it, the teaching profession. Of the hassling of teachers, there is no end ... to paraphrase.

  8. I'm right there with you my friend. Hang in there and post someone when you can....I had the same tough times at the beginning of this year. I found setting up just a small "set-to" can help get the gaming blood flowing again...and In my case switching gears and trying a new scale helped a lot as well.
