ACW

I did as suggested and went to ebay. These arrived yesterday-
They are mainly Airfix with some metal figures (zouaves, infantry and cavalry) I don't recognise.Does anyone know the manufacturer of these rather splendid chaps?
I am very pleased with my purchase which will form a good start to a collection. Seeing those Airfix figures brings back memories as well as thoughts of battles to come. Finally does anyone know if Terry Wise's Airfix ACW guide contains a set of rules?

  1. I do believe they do have his rules in the Airfix book, Tony

  2. Terrence Wise- his book 'Introduction to Battle Gaming' has a whole chapter on ACW - his Rules and a played out Scenario with Pictures...all in AIRFIX 00/HO Figures. Worth a look. KEV.

  3. Tradgardmastare,

A nice collection, and I hope that you get lots of pleasure from them.

The officer figures look like old Hinton Hunt figures.

    All the best,

    1. Going to guess Jaclex for those metal figures - 20mm and designed to fit in with the Airfix range....

  5. I agree with Bob, definitely Hinton Hunt.
The ACW rules in the Airfix book are NOT the same as those in Introduction to Battlegaming (which were reproduced in MWBG 401, p.26), being more complex, with separate fire tables for different longarms and pieces of ordnance. I could scan them and email to you if you like.

  6. Well done on your purchase. I saw those on eBay and was tempted, but resisted!!
Looking forward to see how this all unfolds. I am now painting my final brigade, which gives me ten regiments, 3 guns and three cavalry units per side.

BTW, some of those old figures look brittle, might be worth protecting them with a coat of PVA glue. This dries clear satin and can be sprayed matt if required.

    1. I should add that the broken figures can be repaired with super glue.

  7. I have a copy of the Terry Wise Airfix book. There is a set of rules that are described over a series of chapters, but Ch 5 is a summary of all the rules. A striking feature is that there are no dice for shooting, casualties being modified for range, and nature of the target. Dice are rolled for melee (close combat) to determine the winner. Morale is determined by how much of a unit (depending on quality) remains with the colours.

They look like a simple rule set, but I have never played them, having devised my own set.

  8. Definately Hinton Hunt...from left to right;
CS 1 Confederate (South) Infantry Officer standing
CS 7 Confederate (South) General reading map
US 1 Union (North) Infantry Officer Standing
US 7 Union (North) General looking through field glasses
