Video didn’t kill the radio star

I really enjoy listening to the wireless ( ok,iPad if truth be told) when painting, cooking and engaging in many other tasks as well as just relaxing.
Two recommendations for you https://www.thecambridgegeek.com/posts/2018/05/20180510-a.phphttps://www.thecambridgegeek.com/posts/2018/05/20180510-a.php
It’s called Curious under the Stars. A engaging fantasy set in modern times in Wales. Available on bbc sounds.
Secondly the Prancing Pony Podcast , a Podcast that looks at Tolkien and his writings with scholarship, insight and fun. Well worth a listen to and supporting.

  1. I second the Prancing Pony Podcast! Lots of dad jokes, nerd jokes, and in depth conversation chapter by chapter of Tolkien's works, by 2 obvious fans who are also very knowledgeable about the subject.

  3. Their Silmarillion episodes helped me read that book. I followed along chapter by chapter and was able to appreciate the book. I was never able to get very far into it before.

Another podcast I really enjoy is Lexicon Valley. It's hosted by linguist John McWhorter. He talks about language, mostly quirks of English, but also other languages and how languages change, and lots of other interesting information about language. He uses examples of recorded language from the past to illustrate some of the things he talks about. For example, he might play a clip from the early 1900s to demonstrate a point, such as how people said some things a little differently back then. It's the kind of show that is well-suited to the spoken medium. Informative and entertaining.
