Norwegian Wood 2: Visual inspiration

I thought you might enjoy these evocative illustrations from a book first published in 1914 and republished as a facsimile in 1995. For me these illustrations really bring the period to life-

  1. Some great uniforms there - I really like the stylish top hat with plume, whilst the skiing bunker is a great co version challenge.

    1. The top hat was favoured by Danes,Norwegians and Swedes. I like the look of them too. A skier in 54mm would be cool to convert. As for 28mm I am hopeful that the family will be giving me some reinforcements for Christmas in the form of skitroopers.

  2. Great pics. The top hats are similar to the Swedish hats, but I think the Swedes turned up the side brim Aussie style.

I didn’t realise that there was another 7 years war!

    1. Around thirty years ago ( pre internet for me ) when I began to research this period by writing to museums in Scandinavia they sent me photocopies of some illustrations from this book. It increased my enthusiasm greatly at the time. I also ended up being put in contact with individuals and corresponded with reenactors and clubs like Chakoten. I have files of info I collected.

    2. That’s great to hear you got such a positive response.

I was considering doing the Russo-Swedish War. In my scale I would have probably had to use Austrian jägers or Spanish 1809 uniform as the ones with the closest hats to the Swedes. This project remains firmly on the back-burner.
