I bought these recently and they were delivered yesterday. A mixed bag indeed. I felt the lancer would fit in well with my interwar project and the others were interesting, bought for a couple of pounds each or so. The Scots attracted me with their bright uniforms and I was very intrigued by the pillbox hatted chap. Any information gratefully received about these random recruits.
The Scots I believe are whisky related 'premiums'.

ReplyDeleteLike the mounted farrier it's doesn't seem common, a good find
ReplyDeleteYes, I like him too, something I haven’t seen much of either.
DeleteFascinating, they would make a great unit if I could get enough...
ReplyDeleteyour toy soldier research has come to my aid once more, thank you.
Was going to say the highlanders looked like Grants Whisky promo models, but Man of Tin beat me to it. They do sometimes come up on ebay if you want to increase the roll call.
ReplyDeleteI will have a look...
DeleteInteresting collection of figures - the chap third from the left in the top row looks like he's had his arms replaced..?
ReplyDeleteHe has. A paint job and he will be ready for action...
DeleteThe Highlanders are from the first set of four premiums issued by Grants Whiskey, there was a second set of four which are harder to find, also a rather nice point of sale stand modelled on Edinburgh Castle which was made in resin. All the figures were from different Regiments and periods. I acted as a consultant on the toy soldier market for them (their marketing department was based in Richmond, just up the road from where I live) and they paid me in figures. As Ian says, they're easy enough to find on ebay but if you get stuck I've still got some of them knocking around somewhere I could send you.
ReplyDeleteReally interesting backstory and a kind offer.
