Away

Back last night from a brief visit to York- one night and with my middle daughter.

View from M and S cafe showing a panoramic view of rooftops.

The Christmas Market.
Warped, twisted and atmospheric house. York has so many.
The market again with a wide range of stalls.
Dawn from the hotel bedroom window.
The famous mirror downstairs in Bettys.
Explanation of the mirror from Bettys.

Railway museum, currently undergoing big changes.

I am a sucker for streamliner train.

You can’t beat the Mallard!
Fascinating training aid for the teaching of signalling.
A great museum, enjoyable trip , must do York again soon…

  6. What a beautiful city York is. I assume there is no longer a wargames shop?

    1. Sounds lovely. Is there an equivalent city in Norway? It terms of history, museums and charm.

    2. Not exactly where it's all located on one place. We don't have any towns that old. I'm from the oldest town in Norway which is Tønsberg from 871. There are several of charming places in Norway, but they're kind of different. -Like Ålesund where I visited my son a couple of weeks ago are famous for it collection of Jugend style buildings after a big city fire in 1904. Museums are located all over the country, and the Railway Museum is located at Hamar, which is not very historical or 'charming'.

  8. One of the nicest places in the country. And blessed with the railway museum. There's still a model shop in York as well, near Monk Bar.

  9. Quite agree.
That explains the model shop presence at the Christmas market.
