Rules

I rarely buy big glossy sets of rules but made an exception for these. Nice Wright’s rules are always interesting and engaging , pop by here to see his other work- https://irregularwars.com/collections/all

These are for skirmishes and look very interesting so far.
Secondly, to scratch the itch I have for the late 17th century l bought BTLB in its latest form. Visually impressive and interesting, accessible mechanisms. Just the reads for wet, windy , stormy days…

  2. Am considering BTLB. I have a number of their books but have never got going with the rules or scenarios. I'll be interested to know how you got on with Fantastic Struggles as I use Devilry Afoot quite a bit but have yet to use Irregular Wars that I also bought to look at for the Renaissance Eastern Front e.g. various Deluges.

    1. I like the idea of the wee starter games played over 4 turns.
Fantastic struggles will be a 2026 project probably so let you know then.
Do try Irregular Wars , great fun and worth a go…

  3. Nice post - I have the previous edition of btlb and it was a good read but I have never gamed either it - that’s due to incomplete armies though

  4. Try the small into scenarios they suggest which are played on a two by two mat , I think, with limited forces, which they call 4 play.
