There and back again

Arrived home yesterday to a rainy Edinburgh, with large puddles on the runway. It was gone by lunchtime. Various garden plants have not liked the heat in my absence and I spent part of yesterday trying to save them. I moan about the weather but extreme temperatures are not my thing. I guess a decent summer followed by a decent winter, in other words sun in summer and snow in winter, would be nice but I have no right to complain.  Hope you all manage to stay safe and cool in the coming days.

Newquay airport prior to checking in yesterday and the flight as it said farewell to Cornwall

The books I bought and posted ( no baggage allowance ) arrived yesterday having been posted Thursday in the morning. Excellent service. Flags, figures and finials are coming together nicely for 1790 with the enjoyment of selecting bases sizes ahead. Other projects are waiting attention. Heat is adversely affecting my eczema and making it harder to sleep. Will probably not do much over the weekend but a little planning , light painting and pottering about…

Graduation

 Anna’s graduation in Falmouth today-

The Chancellor of the university, Dawn French, spoke powerfully, movingly and amusingly at the ceremony. She handed out chocolate coins with her likeness upon them to each graduate. She also wore a splendid crown-

Well I am on holiday…that’s my excuse.

Succumbed to the excellent Falmouth bookshop and terrific second hand bookshop on the corner-

Fascinating ww2 bbc book which I could not resist. Perhaps it will lead to further reading on the subject, maybe pamphlets of the period etc. Tank book not cheap but been looking for a reasonable priced copy for years. Terrific photos of home guard conversions and improvisations. Interesting article on the Romans in the Scilly Isles.
The Falmouth Bookshop provided me with yet another tote bag as well as this anthology of short stories. Book has lovely ( if that is the correct word) Lino cuts as illustrations. I am a bit of a sucker for the folk horror thing and would like to introduce it more into my gaming. Loved Midsommer for example.
Probably need to post these home😊

Trebah gardens yesterday

We went to Trebah gardens yesterday. Beautiful gardens with a WW2 connection too.

Holiday reading

 My holiday reading-

Rarely buy the glossies but this one has some interesting articles, not to mention Tidder’s troops. A good read on the early days of ww2 and an excellent book I picked up in Penzance yesterday.

Yesterday

Yesterday saw us in Penzance. The girls to visit the Art Deco lido for swimming and myself to have lunch with Ian R L , an old friend. It was good to catch up in spite of a seagull’s unsuccessful attempt to  take crab cakes from our plate as we sat outside! After lunch a wee wander was in order prior to catching up with another friend M O T for tea. It was great to catch up and chat to both of them. The evening ended with drink alfresco. A good day.

The lovely lido in all its glory!
An interesting house in Penzance , there were many of all shapes and sizes.
The family baking under the hot sun.
Couldn’t resist taking this photo of the old turnstiles at the lido.

Final picture of the lido.

Lycanthropy in Cornwall?

 Saw this blue plaque yesterday-

I was most intrigued by the name. Fancy , a were fox in eighteenth century Britain! Excellent character for  The Silver Bayonet.
