Storage advice sought.
I am hoping to put a lot of my figures out into an unheated garage for storage . Most are held in card box files. I was proposing putting these box files into large plastic boxes. Do you think that is sufficient to avoid deterioration over winter? I wondered if putting blankets over the boxes would help? All your advice is gratefully received as ever.

I would think plastic sealed boxes would be good.. throw a few of these into each box as well, can't do any harm..

Like Steve I was going to suggest silica gel packets in the boxes. The cold affects plastic I believe though I guess metal figures would be ok.
ReplyDeleteHi Alan- my storage for figures is by Cupboards in my Shed...so far I've not needed to put such items as figures (metal) into plastic boxes as well...our Temperatures can range from 41Deg C to -4Deg C...I have not had a problem with deterioration- though I'd expect that Scotland would be very different. Keeping things Dry is all important. Regards. KEV.
ReplyDeleteAll my stuff is in my wargames hut which is fairly well insulated, draught free and heated to frost free level.
ReplyDeleteI think your garage will be fairly cool, even chilled, draughty and never warm in winter.
Keeping moisture out is a must especially for books and rules. I don't think insulation will help much as you really need a heat source to have heat to keep in.
A long term plan to upgrade the garage is what I would do but that will cost money.
Airflow and silica gel is important, and I believe some wooden and card boxes can give off toxins that cause oxidizing..... Not that I want to worry you.
ReplyDeleteReally useful boxes from hobbycraft.
