Been enjoying painting figures, much to my surprise this weekend , sort of connected to this battle. Do you recognise it? Name and date please…

  2. Hmm, flat country w windmills, distant troops in red appear to be flying British colours, defenders also in red but with round hats, officer in bicorne. I'd say part of the 1807 British attack on Copenhagen in 1807.

  3. It's the Battle of Koge, Alan. Wellesley was victorious. It was also known as the Clogs Battle as the Danish militia discarded their wooden clogs as they ran for their lives.

  5. Hmm, I was thinking the guys at the front were Royal Marines until I spotted the British flags in opposition. Given the windmill, something in Holland, except then the uniforms would be green, wouldn't they?

    1. If you make the assumption that the British troops on the far horizon are advancing towards the troops in the foreground then the infantry colours are the wrong way round.

The Union colour (Union Jack if you must) should be on the right hand side of the colour party as they face forward and the Regimental colour (yellow in this case) should be on the left hand side.

This is pretty well true of all British infantry unless they are Guards but Guards do not have yellow colours.

  7. I would have gone for Denmark too, going by the Swedish style hats but red coats, and fighting the British. But I didn’t know more than that without Googling and others got there first.
