The Postal Museum

One highlight of my trip was the Postal Museum. Included was a ride on the P.O underground train which stopped at various points and did a terrific job with voices, film and lights to tell the story effectively. After the ride the museum itself. Fascinating interactive and fun for all ages. My highlights were the blue airmail pillar box and the film plus equipment associated with the Mail Bag Exchange Apparatus.

  1. I recall having a Ladybird book about the Royal Mail - it had a page about the miniature railway under London that was used to move mail around under the capital - interesting its still exists as a tourist attraction!

  2. Excellent choice - but did it sell toy soldier postmen from Dorset Soldiers like the tiny Bath Postal Museum?

    1. Sadly not Mark! I am however tempted to get one or two Dorset ones to have a go at painting…

  3. Yes Ladybird Books were are fantastic, they absolutely fired my imagination!
If course, as a military aside, the German rocket programme was funded originally as a post delivery system in the 1930s, but lead to the terrifying V. weapon.
