Found these interesting snippets of film yesterday afternoon. The last snippet shows Swedish troops using a tractor to tow artillery.

Hope you found these interesting.
Fascinating - with the grainy footage for many of these 1920s manoeuvres it seems like this could have been any Continental War in the previous 50 to 100 years and the First World War had never happened .... then a biplane or tank drops in to view.
ReplyDeleteImpressive the retinue or following of a regiment of flunkys that the average surviving European monarch or king needs to look through a pair of binoculars.
If you look very carefully, I’m sure you catch glimpses of Tintin, boy reporter, amongst the retinue.
DeleteI will go back and have a look for Tintin! The retinue was quite something was it not. I find the footage fascinating and try not to think too much about what happened to the folk in the coming years.

Fascinating, thank you for the links. The uniforms in the Spanish segment looked like something 1870.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked them. Felt exactly the same about the Spanish segment as you did. A snapshot of another age preserved.

I expected an avalanche in the Alps when the austrians opened up!
ReplyDeleteI wondered the same thing!
