  1. Ah - good to see wargaming going mainstream! ;-) (I hadn't heard before of Howard Blake's piece; will have to look it up... Thanks!)

    Cheers,

    David.

  2. I seem to recall 'The Land of Counterpane' as a verse from Robert Louis Stevenson. Is that the theme of this concert?

    1. The Land of Counterpane
      by Robert Louis Stevenson

      When I was sick and lay a-bed,
      I had two pillows at my head,
      And all my toys beside me lay,
      To keep me happy all the day.

      And sometimes for an hour or so
      I watched my leaden soldiers go,
      With different uniforms and drills,
      Among the bed-clothes, through the hills;

      And sometimes sent my ships in fleets
      All up and down among the sheets;
      Or brought my trees and houses out,
      And planted cities all about.

      I was the giant great and still
      That sits upon the pillow-hill,
      And sees before him, dale and plain,
      The pleasant land of counterpane.

  3. Interesting - I’ve come across Howard Blake The Snowman score etc but not Land of Counterpane.

    I will have to track this down to listen. It makes sense with RLS’ Scottish background.

    The attractive poster painting is by American artist Jessie Willcox Smith https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jessie_Willcox_Smith

    Which inspired a Pound Store Battle on my blog which also features other illustrators’ interpretations:
