Here are the finished 1930s Swedes in a variety of uniforms. They have come up well -
However I am not sure what to do with them! Only thing I can come up with is to include them in my Tradgardistan games as a next door province which might get involved. I don’t fancy using them with vbcw currently. All suggestions welcomed!
They look splendid! Those hats are very unusual for "moderns".
ReplyDeleteThose hats are wonderful indeed!
DeleteA Very Swedish Civil War? Intervention in the Soviet-Finnish war? (I’m not saying Winter War because your guys are not in Winter garb - maybe Swedish help enabled Finland to hold out later than March). Action against the British due to disputes over the British blockade of Germany?
ReplyDeleteLots to think of here. Soviets in summer dress have less of an appeal to me than the winter coated ones with pointy hat. British intervention would be intriguing, I wonder if anyone has an o of b out there? I was watching Michael Portillo’s Railway prog last night where he takes a train up the middle of Sweden to the artic circle. Terrific viewing.
DeleteI saw that episode recently too. Looked lovely. If you like Nordic train journeys, there was a programme a couple of months back, travelling from Helsinki to the Arctic circle in winter. I'll see if I can find the link.
DeleteBy the way, you could still get away with the Budenovka (pointy hat) in 1940.
The chap who has the Roll a One blog might have a Swedish orbat for the 1930s. https://rollaone.com/category/sweden-ww2/

The roll a one guy has a splendid set up. I looked up the train links and am really looking forward to watching them later. Good diverting fun in strange times.
DeleteThey look good! hmmm...what was the situation of Tradgardland at the time? Could it have come into conflict with a sort of fictionalised Sweden? I like 'Kingdom of Sverige' even though it's a cheat, or how about using province names? 'Greater Gotland'?
ReplyDeleteI will have to do a little research on the Duchy during this period. I like the idea of a fictionalised Sweden . Lots to think about...
DeleteIf in doubt - Field Manoeuvres and Training exercises of the Swedish Home Guard Militia T.A. versus the more regular troops.
ReplyDeleteSuch was done in the U.K. to train the Home Guard (or arguably the Regular Army).
A plan indeed.
