Not too much achieved this week. I have been demented by eczema flaring and the Black Dog has come sniffing about. Nevertheless some progress has been made-
I have started to add planking to ziz up a mdf house bought made and cheap at a recent show. These fine fellows came from Col Bill and are already changed by wee but significant conversions in order to become a gang/team/ group for The Last War.
I have following James Morris and his Midgard rules for ages. His creativity , output and talent is immense especially as l believe he very busy with Real Life . I have therefore preordered the aforementioned rules yesterday. They look beautifully presented and have much play testing behind them. The videos produced on them by the Lardies are well worth watching too.I found a bag of Ragnarok goblins waiting patiently to be used, well as patiently as goblins can manage. It is a mixed bag with some nocturnal goblin chaps in hoods etc. Not terribly Tolkien but l will use them.
James Morris's Blog (and Website) is very aesthetic - please share info on the Rules when they arrive!
ReplyDeleteOh no! Looks like you are Taming that Autumn Black Dog by keeping busy. If in doubt, undercoat and base.
ReplyDeleteThe variety of interesting figures look like they should spark some new small scale games for your tabletop.
The movie versions of Lord of the Rings has them in what I call sickly' flesh shades, kind of greyish brownish, I think
ReplyDeleteI tend to follow the Warhammer conventions of shades of green with lighter ones for goblins than for orcs.
Hope your feeling better soon , been looking at those rules with interest as well !
ReplyDeleteTolkien says little on the subject but mentions black I think. I have tended to use flesh tones with lots of sharing of grime.

Tradgardmastare,
ReplyDeleteI hope that you manage to keep the Black Dog at arms length until he goes away. No doubt, once he has gone, life will feel a lot better and you’ll get lots of stuff done on your current projects.
All the best,
Bob
Interested to see how you paint up your Goblins, I must admit I am very tempted by the Ragnarok ones, so looking forward to seeing how you do them.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that Alan.
ReplyDeleteAll the best.

Coffee - stirrers are so useful for most scales. I usually add up to my supplies when I pass by coffee-machines, a little at a time.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll recover soon Alan.
All the best.
I got those same Goblins via the Kickstarter. They paint up very well. I just used one of the darker Contrast skin tones. Certainly looks the part to me. I also got the dwarven naked beserkers. Which make a lovely Dragons Rampant unit.
ReplyDeleteI've also signed up for the Midgard pre-order. I don't actually have any fantasy armies but in figure my Wars of the Roses armies will look quite Game of Thronesy, and the rules should also suit my Arthurian Late Romans and Saxons
ReplyDeleteHi Alan. Just keep on with what pleases you. I'm interested to see how your house turns out. I made something similar and used some thinned down regular woodstain on it, worked well. Also, citadel's shade and contrast varnishy-painty things work well on wood and are fast. All the best. Jim
