A question
I have a question for you all. What were the first set of pike and shot/ECW rules published and when was it? Looking forward to hearing from you…
Published? Possibly Bayonet Publications ECW circa 1970 ( no date in booklet) or Charlie Wesencraft - Practical Wargaming circa 1974. No idea when the Wargames Newsletter rules date to.....
Not sure about published but at the first wargame show I went to, November 1971, George Gush was doing a renaissance game and I had a long conversation about what was, to me, a new and exciting period. He very kindly sent me a copy which I vaguely recall as being duplicated rather than printed. They were an early version of the set that WRG later published.
I have a nice old booklet of MIke Wall's rules ( Bayonet Publications ) - Keith Flint and Stuart Asquith even played a game with them in 2018 : https://keefsblog.blogspot.com/2018/09/the-english-civil-war-old-school-style.html
Bit later but these are ECW mid to late 1970s rules from Peter Laing and John Mitchell which I bought from Peter in 1982 https://manoftinblog.wordpress.com/2016/08/19/simple-ecw-starter-rules-a-john-mitchell-tribute/
