After weekly phone calls, reflection, outside agency consultation etc etc I return to work on Monday for a phased return which looks a little too "return" rather than "phased" but we will see.The above photo shows how I feel!
Through all this I have had my first real glimpse of absence management procedures (shudder) in action and H.R at work (the very language shows the core of it I fear) and it is a sad indicator of where our 21st century society is at ...
Monday too sees Jan go for Chemo number three blood counts permitting.
A big day- positive thoughts ( and prayers if that is your way) if you can.Following your projects, games and ideas has helped and continues to help.
Tradgardmastare,
ReplyDeleteGood luck and take care with your return to work. Try to make sure that it is a ‘phased’ as it can be however difficult that might be.
I always preferred the term ‘Personnel’ to ‘Human Resources’; the former sounds much friendlier whereas the latter makes you sound like some form of raw material that is there to be used up … which nowadays is probably quite close to the truth in many jobs.
I hope that Jan’s chemo is successful, and that in a few months’ time you can both look back on this pre-Christmas period as being a time when things took a turn for the better.
All the best,
Bob
Morning Alan. I wish you all the very best for your return to the workplace. Hope it goes smoothly. I always try and remember the maxim "work to live not live to work".
ReplyDeletePositive thoughts (aka prayers) will be winging their way from darkest Somerset for you and Jan on Monday.
(as an aside I met Mosstrooper in the flesh yesterday. Nice to actually meet a blogger after following their antics online).
all the best
Mike
All the best with both fronts. Hopefully those you work with will do their best to put a bit of humanity and support into your return.

ReplyDeleteYou may know that I have been overwhelmed on the emotional front in recent days but you can rest assured that I did find a little while to think of you and I hope that you and Jan can pull through this together and move towards whatever passes for normality for you both.

It may well be a better return than you fear - the children will be amazed to see you, at least. And as for the management, I always try to remember the words of an ex-paratrooper & Falklands veteran I knew: 'what are they going to do to me - torture me?'. I hope things go well for Jan, too. All the very best.
ReplyDeleteThe very best of luck with the chemo and your return to work. I know what you mean by all the bureaucracy. I swear the world will drown under it. I have the suspicion if we all ignore the bureaucrats and refuse to play their games, they'll just disappear. ;)
ReplyDeletePositive thoughts for you both!
ReplyDeleteBIG POSITIVE THOUGHTS! (All in capitals for extra positivity)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to you (on your return to work) and your wife (on her chemotherapy)!
ReplyDeleteTradgardmastare,
ReplyDeleteI hope your day went well and that Jan's chemo went ahead successfully.
All the best,
Bob
