Well worth a read

Here is a link to a most interesting post on another blog about the LOTR-

  1. Tradgardmastare,

What an interesting blog entry! Some of the things that the writer points out are blindingly obvious ... when they are pointed out!

It says much for Tolkein's story-telling that the mixture of historical periods works seamlessly. Bearing in mind that Tolkein served during the Great War, he must have experienced what must have appeared surreal at times. Moving from the cultured, well-ordered Edwardian world to the almost primeval fighting in the trenches would have seemed like travelling back in time.

    Thanks for the link.

    All the best,

    Bob

  2. Thanks Tradgardmastare! I really appreciate the shout-out.

I'm glad you (and some of your readers like Bob) got a kick out of the post. I'm really enjoying writing this series on the Lord of the Rings, and getting feedback like this just makes it all the sweeter.

    Cheers!
