Strange Days...

Let me say at the outset that I know these are strange days and I also know that everyone is trying their best. However my Postal Service is very erratic. There is no rhyme or reason as to when in a day the mail is delivered. We can goes for days without any mail ( unheard of in my house in earlier times) and then it all appears. Some things arrive very efficiently others seem to go into a limbo then reappear. Is it me or have others noticed this? What is it like out with the UK?

  1. Seem's okay here in the N.W. - when we have our usual postman , his replacement insists on doing the round the other way around - which is annoying .

  2. Presently awaiting a package from the Netherlands - it is already a week late ...yet from the UK the mail arrived in seven days via Airmail. Our Local Postman delivered every second day - Envelopes mainly as they have found a huge drop in regular letter mail.

  4. Just thought I'd put my two cents (US) in about mail delivery here in the USA. At the outbreak of the pandemic sometimes getting things I ordered from the UK was very difficult. A package which under ordinary circumstances might have taken a week total to make it across the Atlantic from drop off to delivery could - and did - take three weeks. Part of that had to do with the Royal Mail, part to manufacturers who had to work short staffed and part to the US Postal System which had problems with people absent from work.
Happily a lot of this has straightened itself out. Mail is arriving as it did in the pre-pandemic days and both package and letter service has been excellent. It will be problematic if the pandemic goes into a round two.

  5. The post works well here in the West Midlands unless Hermes are involved.

  7. Allan, those 54mm RN figures I recently purchased were posted on the 2nd Oct, and arrived on the 8th, using 2nd Class, I'm ok with that. It did take five days to actually post them, but things happen, and its strange times.

  8. Here in Toledo Ohio the mail has been very erratic, with no post at all some days, or else it arrived very late in the day. It seems to have settled down now. I've yet to see how international mail will be affected, but since I may place an order with Pendraken in the next few weeks I'll find out soon.

  9. Seems erratic where I live (US). It has almost always arrived late in the day, even before. But there were VERY few days when there was nothing in the mail. Seems like there are more of those days now, but whether that has to do with the postal service or the sources of the various fliers, catalogs, etc., I don't know. Package delivery also seems erratic, but same story, not sure if where the delays occur.

  10. Down here in South Africa it's hard to really tell the difference. The delivery of post (especially international parcels) was already very erratic even before the pandemic. The main difference is that the length of time before a letter or parcel arrives is much longer. For example, a parcel from the UK that would usually take between 2 weeks and 2 months to arrive now can take up to 6 months.

And I'd just like to mention that this is without a doubt one of my favourite wargaming blogs. It's full of inspiration and great figures (I especially liked your zinnfiguren).
