I have talked of playing games with Mythical Earth figures in my teens here before. I came across a Lead Adventure Forum post of mine from 2012 when I was involved in rebuilding my collection recently. It was interesting to find as I am currently renovating my ME chaps once again. They have been based in many ways- single, element, flocked, unflocked, squares, circles and so it goes on.! I have decided on individual bases giving options for big battles and skirmishes too. I began this yesterday but will leave those already on Penny sized basing be. I am thinking of 20mm square but am using up what I have around rather systematically getting one kind. Here are some work in progress photos and two of an Airfix Magazine photo of the ME figures and a wee introduction to them. Also here is a link to pictures of the complete range-

Some old favourites there!
ReplyDeleteClassic figures indeed!
DeleteYou gave me the bug to collect this range. After finishing the mid 80s LOTR project, I'd like to do s mid 70s one.
ReplyDeleteDelighted to have ensured you. I am still looking around for suitable Minifigs from the period to add to these but all I can find on eBay are too old S Range or too new. I would like 1973 celts and dark age/ medieval to mix in...
DeleteThe range that more-or-less spawned fantasy wargaming in the UK at least! I've also been collecting these over the last few years - helped a little by the Caliver re-issues. As you probably know, the contemporary ranges that 'fit' most closely are the Alexander Nevsky figures - and the Gondarian Knight on foot is an obvious conversion from that range - and some of the R range Renaissance Ottomans will pass as Harad/Easterners. The V range Vikings is also a good match for Dunlendings, Beornings and such like. Some of the PB/IR Ancients are also worth a look - the original series rather than the late 70's remakes (which are still available). I always think of the S&S (Conan inspired) range as a little later in style - but I know that some folks also mix those in. Either way - lovely to see these old warriors and nice to think of them getting a new lease of life near half a century on.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your useful and interesting comment Rick.
DeleteI really enjoy making old figures battle ready once more be it Minifigs, semi flat homecasts or Britains toy soldiers. They deserve to fight on...
DeleteHi Alan- I've always had a liking for Minifigs- my first metal figures were Minifig 'Vikings' in 25mm. Cheers. KEV.
ReplyDeleteMe too, my first were Minifigs Ancients, a mix of Greeks and Egyptians.
DeleteAlan, will you be using Stephen's rules initially? Love these figures.

Can’t make up my mind re rules, probably homegrown as I can’t find anything that suits my purpose quite. ..
DeleteI have a wide range of fantasy figures, mostly old GW, but also some Reapers, some Foundry, and various others from assorted Kickstarters. With a similar eclectic mix of bases and base finishes. I guess that comes from decades of miniature collecting/painting, without any set plan and changing tastes and ideas, for me at least. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds and interesting collection.
