Dunfermline links to the SYW in America
Yesterday I took these photos when out for a coffee and walk. I thought readers of this blog might be interested to see them-
Interesting story - impressive house. The round plaque map is stylish but hard to read. I wonder how many Pittsburgh residents travel (back) to see all this?
When I visited John Paul Jones' home in Kirkbean, the caretakers were delighted to meet Americans and showed us all over the place. I'd twisted my ankle that morning and was too in pain to pay as much attention as I'd liked, but it was very much worth the visit.
Fascinating connection to the New World. I did a bit of a Google on Pittencrief and was pleased to see that it is an active museum. Ironic how the British presence in America is valourized in earlier decades but less so in the 1770s!
That is very interesting, I didn't know anything about Forbes and the Fife link to Pittsburgh so will do a bit more digging now. Really good post.
ReplyDeleteThanks. The fort website was great.

That's great - I know there is a similar welcome American tourism to the old country of Ireland, and not just for presidents ...
DeleteInteresting. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI like the colour on that rendering. I think I saw that colour on a building in another of your recent posts. Is it a traditional colour?
I think it is a traditional colour. Lots of other Fife buildings are a similar colour ie at Culross for example.

ReplyDeleteSadly the museum is shut and has been for some time.
