Work on these hollow casts today and contemplating what flesh tones to use. Take for example these -
They came with copper coloured skin . I then painted these two as an experiment-
I used bronze for the left figure over a brown undercoat and didn’t add bronze for the figure on the right. Not really happy with either particularly. I prefer the copper of the first figure. As they are toys I feel no need to agonise over authenticity. So over to you , thoughts please…
I bought these on eBay recently-
Some of them were figures I did not know at all. I was particularly interested in those l have marked with an X in the photo. The mounted Indian has great animation and will work well as part of a mounted unit. The figure in the war bonnet is very striking and will probably be a leader in forthcoming games. Finally the figure in the bottom right of the picture shading his eyes is full of character and will be a scout or look out! I was pleased with my haul.
Thursday saw me hosting a VBCW game. The Swedes had captured the king and were to escort him off the other end of the table in a motorised convoy. They were opposed by the village people ( comprising WRI, Cricket team, Boy Scouts , Gamekeepers etc sections) who were trying to capture the king back or at least stop the Swedes-
After an enjoyable visit to Edinburgh this morning ( not to mention a walk from Bristo Square to the Botanics then to Leith walk via Warriston an McDonald Road) l returned to base the figures from the previous post. I took this book with me this morning for inspiration, background reading and to muse upon as l walked.
Later on consulting these-
I enjoyed the original “ Purple Primer” very much and this later one is well worth a read. I decided upon dbm/ DBA basing as it gave me flexibility in what rules to use and also options for Portable Ancient Wargame or Neil Thomas. As I based l had the radio on for inspiration-So the first part of the rebasing is finished, the figures glued down-So here we are, an evocative Palmyranesque ( is there such a word, there is now) force ready to protect the spice and silk trade from all comers!I took the advice given and sorted the figures out, taking the following photos-
Some Picts including my favourite figure of Pict with loin cloth and telegraph pole. Not part of the below army.
