Mark has a really interesting ( nothing new there) post over at his blog-

It is about the splendid author Rosemary Sutcliff and other Roman hobby matters. I thought l would have a wee look around the house and see how many Sutcliff novels l have. They are shown below. If you have read Rosemary Sutcliff you’re in for a treat. If you know the “ Eagle of the Ninth” have a look at her other novels and short stories. Go on treat yourself.
Some very varied front cover art there, especially Eagle of The Ninth.
ReplyDeleteGreat set of books Alan. I remember Eagle of the Ninth from childhood but haven't heard of any of the others.
ReplyDeleteSword at Sunset is the best fictional retelling of the Historical Arthur taking the romances into account ever written, by anyone.
DeleteTotally agree sword at sunset is number one fiction anywhere from anyone regarding Arthur. Considering many of her books are classed as childrens books , I have to say we are spoiling our kids. She never wrote down to her audience at all.
DeleteRoss & Curlerman, I've ordered a copy on your recommendation.
DeleteI remember reading Eagle of the Ninth as a boy. Great reading for a history nerd like me. I remember setting the Legionary's song "When I joined the Eagles" from the book to the tune of The British Grenadiers. I still remember it. Try it, it works! :)
