Marvellous, evocative photos from one of the premier re-enactment groups
A prologue that transports you through time and space to the Sea of Grass , hooking you in.
So please , here or on your own blogs, tell us about your two books in two sentences with photos being optional.
Sounds like a plan... but I need to think about it. There's a few candidates.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing what you come up with.
DeleteHi Alan- my two books aren't Military orientated: 'Summerhill' by A.S.Neil and 'Self Sufficiency'by John Seymour...I do like H.G.Wells 'Little Wars' though. Cheers. KEV.
ReplyDeleteJohn Seymour - Inspirational!
DeleteDitto Little Wars.
Interesting choice Kev, did you have schooling influenced by Summerhill? I have the Seymour book and always enjoyed it. Practical and inspiring.
DeleteLittle wars , a wonderful read indeed.
DeleteAlan- yes, 'Summer Hill' was a text for High School way back when- I liked what A.S.Niel had to say and his ideas.
DeleteHmm ! will have to think on this …
ReplyDeleteI await with interest.
DeleteMy fiction nomination would have to be one of the Flashman novels.
ReplyDeleteNon-fiction is much much harder to think of something that brings the past alive. I can think of lots of very enjoyable and/or intellectually satisfying* but nothing jumps out at me as bringing the past alive as such. So I’d have to go for something that brings back memories of my own like Pass and Move the autobiography of Alan Buckley.
* my ‘comfort read’ would be Duffy’s the Military Experience in the Age of Reason.
I really enjoyed the Flashman novels but have read them for some years. Interesting memories choice and you can’t go wrong with Duffy can you?
DeleteThanks Alan, I've had a go at this, on my blog. A good excuse to think about some old favourites!
