Trial game

I set up the game. The look of it appeals to me and the small squares don’t affect that. I think a bigger board is in order but that isn’t a priority yet. First thing I noticed was giving everyone javelins made it a quick and bloody first few turns. Note to self - Romans can throw pillium only at much shorter range ( javelins range 12 squares) and perhaps javelins should be restricted in their use.

The photos show the game after two turns. More later...

  1. A nice looking game Tradgardmastare. Perhaps limiting javelin throwing to 2 turns max.?

    1. The rules allow them to throw once only in a game. Even so it was pretty deadly. I did not make that clear in my post I’m afraid.

  3. This would make a handsome cover for the rules, itself. Morschauser is a classic. A javelin range of 12 seems quite far.

    1. Thanks for the cover comment. I think I may adjust the range in my next play test.

  4. I remember reading the rules for the first time and thought "hoplites throwing spears?" then I thought of the Iliad.

I think it would be possible to differentiate between hoplites and psiloi for Classical Greek or Northern Europe or other settings.
