Visitor
The visitor normally hangs around the bird feeder on the ground below it. He waits for seeds that have fallen as a result of birds feeding above him. Today he tried something different-
Birdfeeders have become a source of joy and distraction for me over the last few years (and especially last year!). To be fair I mainly fatten up the squirrels but the little birds get their share too.
No squirrels in these parts. As a boy I made a bird feeder from an old Squeezy bottle with dowel perches and covered in sticky back plastic. It was systematically destroyed by squirrels!
My bird feeders have a lip underneath that the wood pigeons and other large birds can sit on while feeding. There are at least two pairs of wood pigeons who regularly visit as well as hordes of starlings and sparrows, an occasional robin and a few tits of various kinds.
How did he/she get on?
ReplyDeleteVery well, back again today...
DeleteDid he / she appear to make it into your Big Garden Birdwatch tally last weekend?
ReplyDeleteHe did but only on the ground at that point.

ReplyDeleteWe've got camera traps set up next to our feeders - starling feeding frenzies can be quite entertaining on video.
ReplyDeleteI am tempted...
