Vacant space

I have had unsuccessful painting sessions over the last few days, results were awful. I tried to change scale and period but to no avail, my efforts still left much to be desired. Flats failed, semi flats completely awful and large scale a big disaster. I managed to resist throwing money at the block by buying something new and tried a little sorting out , rummaging for something to take my fancy to game/work on but nought grabbed me at all!  I cleared the wargames table-

Looking for suggestions to fill the space, what should I set up to sort a jaded palette? Current collections only please no suggestions for new additions to the lead pile.

  1. Some shiny reinforcements are already entrained and on the way ...

Walk, read something different, watch films and series until inspiration returns.

  2. Set out some troops in spanking red tunics and play some stirring military music.

    1. Listened to the cricket on the radio and did some paper mache scenery if that counts.

  3. I've had a good spell, but there has been seasons when nothing has been completed. I'm about to start on a project which will comprise of just painting 54mm horses and their reins, leaving the horse furniture and riders for another day. It allows nothing more mind-bending than black paint or altering the shades of brown for some horses. But on another day, it will speed up the completion of a new cavalry unit. Don't rule out paint stripping either, when they are clean and primed I find it a pleasure to start painting again.

    1. All the best with the horses! Weeding cleared the head a tad for me.

  4. Tradgardmastare,

Funnily enough, I also had a bit of a painting disaster over the weekend, and decided to go through my storage boxes for some inspiration. What I discovered was two unfinished projects that I can work on without too much effort on my part, and I have written about it for my blog.

I hope that you find something that revives your spirits, but in the meantime, may I suggest that a cup of tea, a plate of biscuits, and a good book are a great alternative.

    All the best,

    Bob

    1. Good plan, I did manage coffee and a read in the garden whilst watching the blue tits go in and out the nesting box...

    1. Great plan but they are in a state of flux with me trying to get them off terrained multiple bases and onto individual ones. Also trying to work out what 1976 vintage Minifigs I could use as an imaginary supplement to the range to depict other troop types...in other words a partial rip off ( or more kindly inspired by) your current project.

  6. A parade. Or a vignette perhaps, to spark a narrative that may or may not lead to all out war?

  7. A parade is a good idea- and very photogenic.

  8. Alan;
As I tend to find the Vacant Space sits somewheres between my ears and above my neck, I think a good long brisk walk outside is the answer.

    That usually suffices for me.

And then a read or a magazine article usually sets me in motion after that.

And a coffee. A good cup of strong, hot coffee... none of that Hipster nonsense.

    1. Model railway magazine and a black coffee helped plus imagining you going into a hipster coffee shop asking for some exotic beverage ending the chat to the barista with “Go easy on the red flowers!”
