A little light research..

This morning sees me drinking coffee and waiting for dawn to break. In order to stave off the assaults of the black dog l am doing a little online uniform researching. I am amazed and delighted at what can be found online in the way of access to old books in library collections as well as prints. We are, in this way, blessed in the digital age. Some gems mined this morning-

  2. Totally agree with you about the benefits of the digital age! Of course, we all know the downsides, but if you use it properly and keep your offensive opinions to yourself, it's actually a very useful tool!

  5. Bad time of year for the old black dog isn’t it. Hobby research is a great way to keep the bugger at bay. Just started immersing myself in Spanish Civil War books for exactly that reason.

  6. And the added bonus as of old, reading Preben Kannick Military Uniforms of the World in Colour, working out on each double page of uniforms what was the most elaborate / ridiculous / stylish outfit if you had to wear one for various different occasions?

Turn that black dog into something fierce some in Silver Bayonet.

    1. A classic, which does indeed feature this period. Black dog as creature, excellent idea.

  7. Agreed...this time of year can be hard going and a good project is a great way to fend that dog off.

  8. He likes to come prowling at what ought to be the most joyous of seasons, maybe it’s all the roasted meat. Could you imagine having to do anything other than parade in those uniforms? I always get caught up thinking how dirty they must have gotten in battle!

  10. Absolutely agree; no end of amazing stuff out there and searching is so often good therapy for avoiding painful and downward spiralling rumination...

    Cheers,

    1. Pintrest is great too for illustrations. I think a picture can really take a project forward in terms of immersion in a period.
