ECW thoughts

I really enjoyed Andy Copestake's recent article on ECW gaming in the wargames press. It was filled with common sense and good ideas not to mention period knowledge. Thanks Andy. I have had a look at the rules I got the other day and I am still swithering.I had a look on the computer and found my old school ecw gaming posts from July 2011 (nearly five years ago - I can't believe it) here-

I also came across this scan of an article by Brigadier Peter Young-
What an interesting organisation for the tabletop. I am swithering again.

  1. There's nothing wrong with a spot of swithering, providing it doesn't get out of hand and turn into lollygagging. ;)

  2. At 48 figures, it's still smaller than a Charge! regiment, a formation I'm quite used to, but I can't help but feel that 6 foot officers plus a mounted officer feels like a bit of a surplus. On the other hand, I seem to recall that the Royalists in particular ended up with groups of "reformados", officers with no troops, so perhaps this is an intermediate stage. :)
